Samsung UE46F8000ST turns on and off by itself

by gleety / August 22, 2014 7:13 AM PDT

My UE46F8000ST TV (latest firmware) turns itself on every day at exactly the same time and then turns itself off again about a minute later.

Currently it's turning on at exactly 20:37 each day and has been doing so for about the last two weeks. Before that it was doing it at a different time, repeating each day etc.

I've disabled auto-update and have no timers set.

I also tried disconnecting it from the rest of my system just to make sure that nothing else was causing it to turn on.

I'd really like to stop this annoying behaviour.

Anyone any ideas what might be causing this?

This is not random on/off problem.

The fact that it turns on at EXACTLY the same time each day suggests to me that there isn't a hardware fault.

I guess you didn't make the call?

Sorry but I tried and in some cases they have to swap the board. Yes it could be a firmware issue but what if they found that some rev chip + current software = this issue? Yes, they could fix the firmware but Samsung may have chosen to change boards rather than pay for another firmware rev.

Same issue also

I have the exact same issue, samsung have even come out to my house and replaced the main board and it still does it. Sometimes it does it in the middle of the night and sometimes it does it at 6.15pm but it does it everyday and also i have noticed it does it once in the early afternoon and once in the evening. My tv is off and the standby light is on red, click noise occurs once and standby light goes off and Samsung logo on front of my 8000 led tv lights up with nothing on screen and it actualy looks like the screen is off. Then samsung logo goes off after about 20 seconds and then click noise again and red standby light is back on. Auto update is off i have experimented by turning off my sky box and disconnecting it and still it does it

Let them keep fixing it until it's fixed.

Tech calls cost them plenty so they will correct it or replace the set if you keep at it.

A possible fix?

Have you also checked the Smart Hub settings?

The Smart Hub also performs an app auto-update every day.

Since disabling this and the firmware auto-update, the problem no longer exists.

If you have a Samsung Blu Ray player, you may also need to disable firmware and app auto-updates in there as well.

Open the Smart Hub

Select Apps

Select More Apps

Select Options

You will see an option to enable/disable auto-update.

Let me know if it makes any difference.
