Question

Samsung UE40H6900 PC Motion Blur / Ghosting

Jan 30, 2015 12:52PM PST

Hello,

I've recently purchased the Samsung UE40H6900.
I'm using it for my PC via HDMI for 4k gaming with the GTX 970.

Something that I can't seem to figure out how to make less obvious is the motion blur / ghosting of the image in games when in motion.
It's begining to make me a bit dizzy and I need to figure out how to reduce this effect.
The TV is on the latest update.

I've named the input to PC.

So, when the HDMI input is named to PC the colors are perfect, but there is a large amount of ghosting/motion blur.

When the HDMI input is NOT named to PC the colors are horrible and I can't seem to calibrate them corrrectly, blacks are all smashed etc. greyish.
But the ghosting/motion blur is almost non existant, seeing as I can adjust the motion plus and smart LED.

i have the exact same problem the only way i managed to stop the motion blur / ghosting is i went into my graphic card settings and changed the refresh rate from 60Hz to 30Hz that helped and stopped all the blur but it changed the setting from the hmdi of pc to normal tv settings even though it was still named PC so you get that picture were all the colors are of and you just cannot calibrate it

i used a AMD gpu but the problem dose not seem to be if its NVIDA or AMD the problem is with the tv

its not only games its play back of movie or tv show of my pc ,perfect colors in movies, smooth edges on icons ect with 60Hz but blur and ghosting
30Hz smooth playback but terrible colors and blocky desktop icons
any one with any kind of help would be much appreciated looked everywhere tried many settings but no cigar

PC versus other things.

One of the odd things when you use a PC the calibration is done on the PC, not the TV. My son used a Pantone Huey to dial his PC in.

the tv has a pc setting why would you need to fiddle about with the pc i have used many tv's as monitors before the one i just had before this was a 32'' lcd phillips put into pc mode and done deal but unfortunately the screen went on it my tv in the front room is 50'' inch Panasonic plasma that works even better i have built another 5 high end pc's for friends that use tv's and have no problem this is not a pc issue it is a tv issue

i7 on 50'' plasma http://i.imgur.com/IWFdBAx.jpg works perfect

i5 on 32'' lcd http://i.imgur.com/ZV9dPyN.jpg excellent

FX-8350 on same lcd http://i.imgur.com/x4a8dzc.jpg perfect playback and gaming

Samsung UE40H6400 on my build http://i.imgur.com/PM8I7V8.jpg brand new so called smart tv absolutely atrocious

also my friends pc are working on tv in their homes and are fine so its not the pc it's the tv that is the problem as stated also in the first comment by xoriam

this is not my profession im not saying im an expert but i know for a fact the problems in this case lay with the tv not the pc

also once you go into the tv's pc setting about 80% of the setting you have before are greyed out
so ..... any more help would be appreciated before i get the i told you so from the wife lol well to late for that but would like to not hear it every day hahaha

I guess you need time to see how things work.

I don't mind sharing but sometimes folk want a fix that is not in the cards. My background is from pre-PC days to present so while I'm no expert I know this area well enough to work the issues.

Wish I could explain it better but for now, we don't calibrate the TV but the source when we use the PC.

i understand and what the main thing is that there should be no calibration needed either from the tv or the pc it should be plug and play like previous tv models

as you say will have to wait and see hopefully there will be some kind of fix in the tv's update rather sooner than later since more and more people these days are using these tv's as monitors you would think there would not be this kind of problem

since i work from home on the screens all day its a bit of a pain

advice to anyone don't use/buy these tv's as pc monitors especially if you like watching movies/playing games

thanks for you time Bob

Sorry I didn't explain that.

In the past when I use a PC I calibrate the PC with a device like the Pantone HUEY.
And that's what I do today.

Due to differences in cards and displays on PCs this is an accepted protocol.

Apple tends to not suffer from this as they supply the complete package but if you do color work, you still want to do a color check.

Back to this TV as a PC display. Because we want to turn off all video processing which can induce lag or other errors, setting the input name to PC is the norm.

Hope this helps,
Bob

easy fix done it myself took less than 5 min picked up phone called shop told them come pick up tv and bring me a Sony have a afternoon nap they come bring new tv take away other hook up to pc problem solved lol
Sony's have the lowest lag than any other tv out there it has one of the lowest ever input lag recorded for a TV @ 13.5ms

avoid Samsung tv's for pc monitors let them stick to phone's
