Question

Samsung UE40F5000 slow response time in media player

by Roden84 / December 2, 2013 10:02 PM PST

Hello,

I bought a UE40F5000 recently and I play movies from an external USB HDD using the TV's built-in media player.
I found that the media player has a very slow response time. I mean when I push the "pause" button on the remote controller it still plays the video for several seconds before it is actually paused. For small videos (350 Mb) this "lag" time is around 6-8 seconds but for large HD movies it can be 25-30 seconds. The "stop" button works even slower. This is very annoying, the media player on my old TV (LE32C530) had much faster response. I don't think it's because of the HDD, I used the same one with the old TV and didn't experience anything like this.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,
Roden

Clarification Request
Did you solved the problem ?

Hi Roden,

I just bought SAMSUNG UA46F5000AM (in Indonesia) and I facing the same problem - if not worst.
The Media Play can't show the folder's content at all, the TV restarted/rebooted by itself.

The same HDD can be read smoothly with the old TV SAMSUNG LA40C530f1RXXD.

I already call the local Customer Care without any solution.

If you found the solution, would you share it?

Thank's in advance

PS.Sorry for my poor english

Remember this is well discussed. So a recap.

From one tv to the next it is not a good test that there is something wrong as one set may have more decoders and faster/slower CPU.

If a decoding is not supported then odd things like rebooting is not unheard of.

Fast forward to the real issue. Consumers don't want to deal with video encoding. So the best bet is DVD and such to play video from. Not hard drives. Hard drives and video collections are best for techies.

Hi widjajaw,

well, my solution was to buy an external media player and ignored the built-in one. I'm sure that the TV's media player software is poorly implemented, the problem is not in my HDD. I hope they will fix this issue in a later series, but for now, Asus O!Play Mini Plus is working for me very well, it can browse my external HDD fast, plays all video formats and can handle subtitles. It is cheap and has built-in WIFI too so I can access Youtube and my shared folders from my computer.

Best regards,
Roden

Hi Roden,

I think to buy an external media player with WiFi support is a good idea.

Thank you for share.

@Proffitt, Thank you for your advice.

Hi Roden84,

Thanks for your message! But just so you know, I support US products and customers. And from what I can tell, this model is for France. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) So if you want the most accurate information, here's the Samsung France portal for support on that product: http://www.samsung.com/fr/consumer/tv-audio-video/tv/tv-led/UE40F5000AWXZF

Hope this helps you!

Thanks for the quick response!
Actually I'm from Hungary, but does it actually matter? The full product number is UE40F5000AWXXH if that helps. Do you think the the localization of the product caused the issue with the media player? Sounds weird to me...
