Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the WD drive, however the DirecTV box can often be reset by unplugging it (or calling up the service provider's troubleshooting department and having them reset or update the box) and this will often solve the issue with not getting a picture.

If you'd like to try resetting the TV, press and hold the EXIT button on the remote for about 15 seconds, and then click YES when prompted to "RESET?" appears on the screen.
