Question

Samsung TV firmware update issues

Jun 30, 2015 7:29AM PDT

I have a Samsung TV model # un65fh6001 and updated the firmware to 1004 from 1011. The result is I lost the Auto-motion feature resulting in a permanent soap opera effect. I also lost the ability to adjust the backlight. Subsequently I had to install a new mainboard to correct the issue with the old firmware. However as previous to the update the picture quality in dark scenes is poor due to "crawling moss" or dynamic false contouring. Any suggestions would be appreciated..

Answer
Make it a warranty issue.

Call it in, make the warranty claim and if no action, move to returning the set as a defective product.

Then same process.

Call it in, if no support head to small claims court. It's like an out of warranty car repair that went wrong. They are still on the hook to make it right.

I'm sorry to hear this. Have you already tried just doing a basic factory reset on the unit to see if the options for auto motion plus became available again? If you are still experiencing the same symptoms please contact me directly at qasupport@sea.samsung.com I would like to look into this further.

re factory reset
Jul 4, 2015 6:09AM PDT

Factory resets were tried a couple of times and had no effect. The only way to correct the problem was to install a new main board. The TV was diagnosed and the new main board was installed by a repair technician from Best Buy. Now I have the original problem where dark scenes exhibit significant banding. Other terms for this is "crawling moss" or dynamic false contouring. This is more pronounced with weaker feeds but still happens with blu-ray movies as well.

Terrible engineering

I never understood this no going back about Samsung firmware. My router allows flashing firmware and you can easily go back to previous firmware.

firmware update useless
Jul 20, 2015 12:59PM PDT

So they FINALLY updated (2 years+ from the last update!) the firmware for my tv - un65FH6001F and it at least didn't remove any of the picture options. However it did nothing to fix the picture issues in that all sources show what the technical term is dynamic false contouring. This is heavy multi-colored blobs crawling across the screen during dark scenes. This type of picture issue is something that was corrected years ago by the television manufacturers and should never be an concern on an TV especially a name brand in this day and age.
