Does that laptop show output via HDMI on other TV's or monitors?
If not, it's an issue (maybe a setting) on the laptop. With my Dell laptop here I have to activate output to a "projector" to be able to work with an external monitor. That's fn-f8 on that laptop. No doubt it's different with your ASUS.

Would love some help if possible
To cover some basics: HDMI cable definitely works; I've tried a few different ones; I've tried various resolutions on my laptop; I've tried all of the HDMI ports in the back of the TV; other external devices can connect (DVD and cable both work and are connected via HDMI cables)
My TV model is UA55D6000SMXXY
No network or wireless connectivity to TV
I have been trying for 3 days to get my laptop and TV to connect without any luck at all. The 'source' on the TV that I plug the laptop into is greyed out. When I click on it it says "source not connected. Please check the connection again"
Depending on how much I've been plugging and unplugging cables the ASUS will generally detect that the Samsung is connected to it.
I did for one moment earlier today get the laptop screen to show on the TV for maybe 2 seconds and then it disappeared again. I think the reason that worked is because I 'tricked' the TV by just unplugging the DVD connection and putting it into the laptop. It seemed to be ok with that for about 2 seconds as I mentioned before and then it dropped the connection and just went back to not detecting the laptop again.
I've not been able to replicate that.
Any help would really be appreciated. I'm really desperate here! Thanks in advance
