Question

Samsung TV audio setup issues

Apr 10, 2017 5:27PM PDT

Hi,

I have done some research in how to hook up my TV to sound system and it looks like I have two options, ARC with the HDMI or using a DAC with the optic cable to RCA inputs.

I got hold of a DAC and plugged it in. With external devices (eg Wii U, Playstation) it works fine but with anything of the smart TV apps or TV stations I get no sound, that includes whether I have the setting switched to Optic or regular on the TV settings.

I tried the HDMI from the ARC to the sound system but I'm wondering if our sound system is too basic or old to have that as that doesn't work at all.

So what I am wondering is mainly how I can get the TV based sound to play from the sound system, what I am missing.

Here's the models:

Samsung 6300 60" TV
Samsung DAV-TZ140 Sound System
Prozor DAC

Many thanks for any help, I've been fiddling to no avail the last couple of days!

Apps are different

They don't have to obey TV settings and may output some audio the decoder can't handel. Remember this is a common complaint.

Be sure to set TV and apps to simple stereo or PCM. If this setting is missing call Samsung to locate it.

Gave it a try

I tried setting the TV to PCM, the apps themselves don't seem to individually give that option, but still no sound.

Are you saying it is possible the TV apps and regular TV channels just will not be able to play sound to the sound system at all?

No.

It means that the decoder can't deal with some HD audio. A receiver does not have this issue. DACs generally do.

If you can't find the audio settings in an app, you call Samsung and the app's author or company. REMEMBER this is a very well worn area. There are some hundred smart TVs and I continue to just fish through the settings till I find PCM or stereo or other options.
