Tony,
If you are in the Dynamic Picture setting, you may have a limited ability to adjust the black levels.
Try going to a Standard or Movie picture mode and adjusting that way.
Keep me posted!

Samsung le26a456c2d and philips dvd player 5990/12
Hi
Both units are brand new and connected by hdmi cable Hama ver 1.3,
On page 20 of the Samsung user manual it says that the hdmi black level can be adjusted either normal/low and under it says "this function is active only when the external input connects to hdmi(rgb signal).
I have change the cable to the above from (1.1 ver) and can see picture quality improvement, still grey out on TV set as normal, change the Philips unit from 3980/12 to above, Samsung uk told me to reset TV which I have done over the telephone instruction.
I live in France and Samsung france do not offer any english speaking support which is strange as most large multinational companies today offer just service,ie Linksys,Hama, etc.
So could anyone set me in the right direction to get this working hopefully.
Look forward to any suggestion and thank in davance any help
