Samsung T4061 "no input devices are connected" message

Mar 24, 2009 6:21AM PDT

All of a sudden I have no picture. I get the message "no input devices are connected" and check the input and there is no TV. I checked all the connections- they seem fine. I switched the HDMI cable from another TV, and that didn't work.

I am connected to a Dish 622 DVR. I checked in another room on TV2 and the Dish works fine there. The set recognizes the DVD Recorder and the OTA antenna, but no TV.

All I have running from the TV is the HDMI cables- one going to the DVR and the other going to DVD Recorder.

Now my son was messing around with the settings to get a plug and play game to work. The TV has intermittently worked since then. Could he have messed something up with the input menu on the TV?

Any help is appreciated.

tomyo10,

Based on your description, I'm having a little trouble understanding what isn't working.

1. Does the tuner work?
2. Which HDMI ports work?
3. Which HDMI peripherals are you having a hard time with?
4. What plug n play game? Like a game console?
5. What menu was your son in? Picture? Setup?
6. Does the TV have "no picture", or does it "intermittently work", and if intermittent, exactly what is intermittent?

Any other information would be helpful if you think of it. I'll see what I can do to help.

Keep me posted. Happy

-The tuner works- it picks up the OTA antenna, but not the Dish side.
-I tried the HDMI cable in the other two HDMI ports. Does not work there either. I switched the cable with another HD set and it worked fine there.
-I'm not sure what you mean concerning peripherals
-The game was one of those portable Birdie King games you just plug into the side of the set. My son hit the setup button until the game showed up.
-I did push the TV closer to the wall. It didn't work then I slowly pulled it away from the wall and it came on. That made me believe I crunched up a cable or loosened one up somewhere. But I checked all connections, and nothing is loose or crunched.
-The only reason I brought up the pug and play game was that it seems everywhere I look, this problem is associated with a computer hookup or XBox type hookup. I have never had either connected until this game was.

tomyo10,

Thanks for getting back to me.

It sounds like your HDMI ports aren't connected properly. I'm not sure it was due to a crushing or not, but if the box is able to work on a different television using HDMI, and not the Samsung using HDMI, then the problem may be that the HDMI ports simply aren't working.

Now if you hooked the box up to the other television with component and the Samsung TV to HDMI, it may be that the box is sending the signal out via component - which can be a setting changed in the box.

Perhaps the connects inside aren't loose or crunched up, but internally, it got crunched. I might suggest calling 800-SAMSUNG to have a repair technician take a look at your unit.

Keep me posted.

I didn't hook the box up to another TV, I took the MDMI cable and hooked it up to another TV and it worked fine. I took component cables and hooked them to the Samsung and now that works fine. But if I take the component cables away, the TV does not work with the HDMI connected.

So Component Works... and HDMI does not... correct?

tomyo10,

If the component cables work from the box, but the HDMI does not, that probably means that your box's settings are programmed to send the signal through the component. Most boxes don't have the ability to send both component and HDMI at the same time.

Since you have both cables hooked up, use the component input (usable one) to go into your cable box's settings and switch the output to HDMI. Once that is done, you should be able to switch the TV's input to HDMI and get the picture.

I believe this is a simple cable box setting that may be causing this. You may need to call your content provider (cable co) to have them walk you through the steps, depending on how savvy you are with the cable box's menu. But switch the inputs with both cables attached and see if that resolves your issue.

Keep me posted.

All the settings are fine with the DVR. I'm thinking this may be a problem with the DVR itself.
