Question

Samsung T220 won't turn on

Dec 2, 2012 3:29PM PST

Hi.

I have a Samsung T220 HD which is giving me issues since the last year. When I bought it it always went fine until it decided to stop turning on normally. The problem is that when I press any button to turn it on (from the remote, the side buttons, the touch-pad power button; any of these, the result is the same) the red light of power-on will turn on for a moment, but then it will immediately turn off. It just flashes for a moment, then it's off again. After repeating this procedure countless times, eventually it will remain turned on instead of just flashing, and at that point EVERYTHING works fine. Anything I can do with the remote, the menu, volume, everything. Even to turn it off I don't have the slightest problem.

So it seems like there is something blocking it only when it has to be turned on, and this block is somehow removed after attempting to turn it on for dozens and dozens of times. Of course this situation can't go on forever and every time I want to turn the TV on...so, what could be the problem, and most importantly what could be the solution? Thanks.

Actually the problem seems to go away if I change the source of the input before turning off the TV. In particular, I typically use it to play games on the x360, so I stay on Component all the time. I noticed that if I switch to something else (like Ext. source), it will normally turn on the next time. So it seems like it doesn't want to turn on as Component...kinda weird. Of course it's not really a solution to my problem, just a way around it. Does this ring any bells or it's something entirely random?

Hi Fugzarog,

This is a very unusual behavior. Mind doing a test? Disconnect your 360, but leave it on that component source. Turn it off and then turn it back on. See if the behavior replicates. If it does, then it's probably still a service issue. If it doesn't, try another component source like a Blu-ray player. If the behavior replicates, then again, it's probably the TV, but if it doesn't, then it may be a problem with your 360.

I tried after disconnecting the x360 cables, unfortunately the problem persists. I don't have another component hardware to try, but I guess the result would probably be the same again. Also, the x360 works fine on another TV, and the stupid thing is that everything works perfectly after the TV is turned on. I guess it's just a random issue then...

Thanks for the support, I'll try to deal with it as it is.
