Samsung SyncMaster 204B flat panel monitor - dying?

Aug 15, 2011 5:18AM PDT

My SyncMaster 204B is several years old and has lately begun to take longer and longer to come back to full brightness when waking from sleep mode, and also has been flickering while coming to full brightness. Is this an indication that it is dying, or is there a repair for these symptoms that makes sense instead of buying a new monitor?

Thanks!

Bob...Thanks! That's what I expected. I checked the pics and mine is nowhere near that bad. Any guess on how fast it will go once it's started this deterioration?

Thanks!

I'll have to write that it goes whenever you need it most.

Sort of like copy machines with those stress detectors. If the user is stressed about making copies the detector kicks in and you get a the famous PC LOAD LETTER on the display as well as a PAPER JAM in every possible location.

I wish I had a better guess but the units I took that picture of range from pretty new to over 10 years old. It's blurry on purpose since it's just to show the CCFL age effects.

Bob...yeah, I know what you mean about poor timing. Right in the middle of a long run of color photo printing, I run out of the only ink color for which I don't have a spare cartridge. Sad

Thanks for your help. Guess I'd better start shopping around.

Hmm, 2 of my printer's 5 cartridges have that Low Ink blinking LEDs flashing. It's always something.
