Resolved Question

Samsung sound bar goes out only in smart Hub netflix

Apr 25, 2014 11:41PM PDT

My Samsung TV UN46ES6100 and Soundbar HWE450 works well together until I use Netflix. Amazon plays without going in and out but Netflix constantly goes in and out. Wii, Sansung DVD player works fine. I do not have cable or satellite. I have tried optic and HDMI cables. It is only netflix why?

Could be the old 2.1 audio setting.

Most bars are 2.1 sound. Netflix could be sending 5.1 and it will wig out. In the Netflix app, set it to 2.1 so you don't exceed what the sound bar can do.

how did you do it?

When you choose a show in Netflicks go to settings for closed captioning. You will be offered Dolby 5.2 or stereo. Select stereo. You may have to do this each time, I'm not sure but I use CC and after a while it remembers that I choose CC and automatically puts it in CC mode so maybe eventually it will remember that you like stereo instead of Dolby. Good luck!

Did not work for me

Thanks, I tried your suggestion, but it did not work for me. This is a very frustrating problem for many people. I have tried suggestions from other forums and called Samsung, but no solution yet.

Then it's defective.

While the usual is to make sure the sound is 2.1 in your case you have something with a defect. Since no one can fix it, you need to pack it up and return it as defective.

Help at last
Apr 27, 2014 5:46AM PDT

I went to chat at Samsung - no help, called Netflix - no help, but she gave me a number to call at Samsung. I called and after describing the situation several times, I was put through to remote takeover. They tried many things and after 30 minutes finally solved the problem. He had to change one of the settings to SPDIF out - PCM and it worked. I think that I had selected PCM under another setting, but it didn't work. I am happy now. I can hear Netflix through my soundbar and all is well.
Thanks again.

That's sad to read. 30 minutes?

To me it sounds like the industry needs a reset. They sell thousands of these things and they appear to not work out of the box. Here, when I set it to stereo, it's PCM.
