Question

Samsung Smart TV unable to connect to internet (suddenly)

Feb 23, 2015 10:45PM PST

I have a Samsung smart TV (40 inch) unsure of the model number as i am at work. It has a wired connection to my BT Infinity router, up until this morning it was working fine when accessing the smart hub, Netflix etc. This morning when accessing smart hub the TV said that it could not connect to the internet, I ran a test, TV said cable to router fine, but no internet. WIFI on all other devices is working ok. I have reset the router, disconnected tv from the mains, swapped the ASDL filter for a new one and changed all cabling (wall-router/router-tv). The TV is still giving me the same error message. I'm unsure of the next step, any help would be appreciated.

On your Samsung TV, add 151.80.14.237 as the name server in your internet settings.
You will see IP settings when you try to startup the hub - edit the DNS
Each field will have 3 dots, but it allows you to enter 2 numbers for the 80 and the 14.
Worked fine for us. We were up and running in about 2 minutes after everything
reset to that address.

Samsung have "fixed" it, by reducing the number of CNAME redirections in the DNS A record response for www.samsung.com from 5 back to 3.

I guess there wasn't enough time to figure out out to make 20+ models of TV run a competent DNS resolver stack.

All of you who put in some 3rd party DNS or employed some sort of spoofing can return your settings to normal now.

Has a similar problem recently but figured out the solution.
Feb 25, 2015 11:55PM PST

I have a Samsung SmartTV UN46D7000LF. When I tried to connect it to the internet through my new wireless router (TP Link TL-WR841N), I got an error message saying "Network Interference Occurred.Try Again Later." I had also tried the following but had no luck:
-- Connect the TV to the Router/Cable Modem directly through Ethernet cable.
-- Resetting the SmartHub (through Settings in SmartHub)
-- Resetting the TV to its Factory Defaults (by holding the EXIT button on the TV Remote for 10 seconds)

The solution to my problem was this:

1. Open the router configuration page by typing 192.168.0.1 in the web browser.

2. Choose menu "Network ? WAN". (This page displays the WAN IP parameters assigned dynamically by your ISP, including IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, etc)

3. Click the Release button to release the IP parameters.

4. Click the Renew button to renew the IP parameters from your ISP.

5. Click Save.

6. Connect the Samsung Smart TV to the internet.

Feb 26, 2015 10:34PM PST

Hi
read your post.
My problem is a little different. My samsung went out the same time everyone elses did.
Spoke w/ the samsung tech & he had me do a lot of things but nothing worked. I am showing an x between tv and router. When I hit auto search nothing happens. Your mentioning of the firmware got me thinking and I wondered if anything changed on my tv with the router search function. I went to samsung site chose my model & saw several updates. Which one did you use and how did you do it. It sounds like you had a connection to the internet. I dont have that so i will have to do it through computer then in to usb on tv. I down loaded the upgrade on their first page & it gave me a zipfile. put usb into tv & tv asked me video music or something else. did not og further than that. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks Dave

update.
Feb 27, 2015 1:48AM PST

I didn't think of this but my daughter suggested I hook the tv to the eithernet cable to check it. I did that & it connected me to internet, went to samsung & updated software. hooked tv back to cablebox left unplugged from 120v. Unplugged the router for 20 min. Powered back up. Went back to network settings & it auto connected. It changed the ip back to what I thought it should be rather than the ip the samsung rep gave me which was xxx.xxx.xxx.xx. ip now shows up as xx.x.x.xx. the last 2 number was a sequencial # that the router assigned to the tv. All our ip # are the xx.x.x.xx. with the last 2 numbers changing by the different devices we have through the Apple router. Somehow this outage screwed up my tv and it appears it needed an update to reset the auto search for the router.
By the way I found this on samsung download site
Upgrade File(USB type) (Firmware) ver.2003.2 - All OS (EN, 141.33 MB) ?

They are supposed to be a flag waver, customer support, all the things you would think for customer service.

The problem is he/she/they, only appear when the answer is one of 2 things; "sorry that's not a US model, please see the link to customer service in your country", or "have you tried a reset?".

The internet is global, forum members can download manuals from other countries and answer questions, but the rep can't?

Samsung Smart TV unable to connect to internet (suddenly)
Feb 26, 2015 3:26AM PST

So thing happened to me when turning my TV on the morning of 2/24. So did the DNS change, reset, unplug, all to no avail. What worked for me, I downloaded the latest firmware and installed it via USB. Another issue that I ran into was my Software Update option under Menu was greyed out. I had to remove all USB and HDMI attachments from the TV and then unplug TV. So after plugging it, selected Menu-->Software Update-->plugged in my USB that had the firmware. I noticed that I definitely did have an older version of firmware. Once firmware was installed it worked. I had to redo my network connection to get an IP.

Have you checked the port of the USB connections on your TV?If yes and if they okay then I would say you should call to the service center, they will surely help you.

Well after a few weeks of my thinking that the device had developed a fault, I have been at least reassured by this thread. I went back and tried reconnection for the umpteenth time and this time it worked.
Samsung have now taken the arrogance and incompetence prize and I vow today to never again buy one of their products and i will also advise everyone I know to do likewise.
I thought apple were arrogant but they haven't even passed the start line in comparison to this!
And of course this isn't the first time that Samsung customers have suffered this sort of treatment.
I'm tempted to dump this pvr and exchange it for something decent without connectivity, disconnection, or dmr issues. They haven't even bothered to provide us with apps for basics like itv player and demand5, although they are clearly available for some of the latest devices.
What a shower!

As to iTv that may be up to other than Samsung. It's up to those that write those apps to port and get them to the market. Samsung doesn't seem to write said app.

I just thought I would post this solution here after I spent several days and hours on the phone trying to get my Samsung Smart TV to connect to the internet. After having the television for 2 years with not problems at all, suddenly it would not connect to WiFi. The last tech at Samsung that I spoke with knew exactly what to do and my TV was back working and connection to the internet within a few minutes. He told me to reset the DNS to 8888.
Detailed instructions for the computer challenged community such as me:
On your TV remote, go to Menu, Settings, Network
Next select Network Settings, Start, IP Settings
Then select DNS mode and make sure the green check is on "manual"
Enter 8 8 8 8 and OK
Bingo, instant internet
(note - I also was told to click on Samsung Smart Hub in upper right corner. I had reset my TV and it needed to update and add back my programs)
I have a Samsung Smart TV Model No. UN553S6500 (a 2012 model)
NOTE: I adore people that know their jobs! Thanks Chris!

i have the same issue today on my Samsung UN60F Smart TV. I spent an hour on the phone with my ISP, then the store i bought it from (extended warranty) even scheduled a repair. Finally got through on Chat with Samsung support and they said "we are currently experiencing internet connectivity issues related to our Samsung Smart TVs, we are working on the issue" when pressed, they would NOT give any estimate on repair time. I have had no problem at all since i bought it a year ago, this is the first time it did not connect to the internet but does connect to my router. I tried changing DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4, tried resting the router and the tv to factor specs, tried everthing under the sun but no avail The only Up side of this, I have a repair scheduled for Wednesday (due to extended warranty) but according to Samsung i should cancel it as the issue is on Their end not mine. So, not sure if your issue was resolved or if this is a continuous issue with Samsung tvs but not much more i can do. I dont know how to spoof a DNS, dont know how to change it in my router (its a gigaet SE567 of anyone knows).
