Samsung Smart TV - text characters replaced by blocks

My Samsung Smart TV no longer displays letters or numbers in any of the menus or interactive controls. All the menus work ok, and the TV is fully functional, but instead of displaying text, it's just blocks (looks like barcodes).

As with all of these things it was fine last night, but just started this morning.

This is evident in any of the Samsung specific menus.

Has anyone seen this before? I was contemplating using Samsungs remote assistance, but of course I am unable to read the 8 digit log on code.

Clarification Request
resolved yet?

Hello Reb1999

Has your problem been resolved yet. I am having the same problem but when I contact samsung it is a known problem but they apparently don't know the solution, although they insist with certiantity that it is not a software problem. So i was wondering if you were able to resolve the problem yet.

Only when a board fails.

Hopefully it's in warranty. Last hurrahs I might try:
1. Any and all resets from the user manual.
2. Update the firmware from for my TV.

mine has done this today too

.one has done the same. Fine yesterday now barcodes where text should be. Tried hard reset, changed the language etc. Still the same

Firmware update?

I am suspecting it may be a firmware issue? At least I am hoping it is. Everything works ok and the TV is fully functional, but as I said, everything is in barcodes rather than text.
I tried the factory reset and the smart hub reset but nothing. The reset is a problem because you then need to reconnect to the Internet by guessing what the reconnection pages are asking you. I also needed to guess which characters were which on the keyboard. Not as simple as it sounds.
I think I will wait until the next update automatically downloads to see if it fixes it. The fact someone else is getting the issue at the same time may be a coincidence, but it may be due to an update?
The TV isn't in warranty anymore but is only 18 months old.

Did you extend the warranty?

Why not extend warranty, wait the waiting period and then call it in. I take it the above didn't work out for you.

RE: Characters

I would recommend calling and speaking with our Remote Management team at, 1-800-726-7864. If they are unable to resolve it, it may require service, which they would be able to set up for you as well.
