Question

Samsung Smart TV - on/off timer memory after power failure

Apr 15, 2015 6:18PM PDT

Our office has 7 Samsung Smart TVs (UA46F5500, Software: 2104) that we use to display system statistics for monitoring purposes.

I've set the on and off timers to switch on at 7 am and off at 7 pm Mon-Fri which works great until we experience a power failure (which occurs fairly frequently).

When the power fails the on/off timer status is lost and needs to be re-enabled (it remembers all other settings like source, time, volume etc), I have to go to each TV and select the on/off timer to Mon-Fri until the next power failure.

Is there any chance the on/off timer status can be stored permanently?

At an office long ago.

We used some PCs to do such things. To stabilize it all we had to add the usual UPS on each system.

Now if these are SIGNAGE MODELS the makers seem more responsive.

HDMI-CEC Support sucks
Apr 21, 2015 11:43PM PDT

Thanks for your reply...

I ventured down the HDMI-CEC support route and found the drivers lacking. The manufactures (AMD and NVIDIA) have got the HDMI-CEC wiring but it's not connected to anything therefore no support. That rules out the PC controls.

I can however purchase a dongle (https://www.pulse-eight.com/p/104/usb-hdmi-cec-adapter) to bypass the manufacturers reticence to support it. Half tempted to buy one for personal use tbh...

The other cheat.

Was an Arduino with IR control to blast the commands at the TV. Remember that all this is designed into those Digital Signage models. Consumer gear, you have to make your own fixes with Arduino, Rasberry's or PCs.
