Time to call it in. Be sure they check if the firmware is current.
I have a Samsung UA40F6400 smart tv which has developed a bright flash approx 2 per second at the bottom of the screen only in 3D mode. is this a psu failure?

Probably, thanks.
I have noticed that when i turn the backlighting down to 3 out of 20 the problem goes away. I may just watch 3d videos this way, as its very seldom that I use the 3D option of this set.
Always call these in as you want them to help you check firmware, do resets and re-test. Sometimes there's a bulletin on issues that no one will know until you call in.
Had a chat with the Samsung techie. He says he has seen the problem before on this model series.
The set uses more current in 3D mode, and the psu is unable to deliver the required power. Something is breaking down on the psu board. I am going to order a replacement board and pop it in and see what happens.
The tv draws more current from its power supply in 3D mode. The power supply was breaking down in 3D mode resulting in backlight flicker/flash. Ordered a new power supply (around $35) popped it in and problem is resolved.
The PSU on this set model number is BN44-00622-C
