The files are locked and only playable on the TV so what files there were before and now are not usable.

Tell more what you are trying to do. If you want to get at the content recorded by the TV, that's only done by playing on the TV. There are prior discussions about this so I'll pause her.e

It's likely gone.

I recall there were warnings when the TV was going to prepare the drive. Since the drive was formatted you use your backup copies and ask Drivesavers.com to take a look.

If files are important, we have backup copies.

Recovery Programs can help!!

In reply to: samsung smart tv, external hdd not readable

Hi,

Recordable formats are sometime supported by few most popular recovery software out there and could help you retrieve your files even if it's not detectable under 'My Computer'. If you have backup of your files then you can easily restore your folders but in absence of backup, using data recovery software would be your last data survival hope.

Else, I'm afraid that data recovery service like DriveSavers would charge you way more than your budget.

That's a bold claim.

In the case of what happened above I've yet to find these apps to recover content. It's not a sure thing so I think you must be promoting apps.

I am not promoting any apps but want to find an app my friend for myself to see how I could retrieve my pics and videos. Its sentimental to me as a lot of my family who are now dead, i have their memories on the hard disk and wish to have them back.

Wishful thinking in the OP's case.

Try Data Recovery Software

In reply to: Samsung smart TV changed format of external Hard drive.

I would recommend that you scan the drive using data recovery software such as R-Studio. Likely the file system was overwritten by the quick format done by the TV, but unless it sat there for hours I highly doubt it overwrote the whole drive. The folder structure will probably be a mess, but you should be able to get the bulk of the files back.

I actually run a data recovery company that competes with DriveSavers, and this is exactly what most companies (including drivesavers) are going to do in a case like this anyway. Data recovery companies don't have any magical machine that brings back overwritten data, but most of your data hasn't been overwritten I'd assume.

Use any reliable recovery tool

In reply to: Samsung smart TV changed format of external Hard drive.

Hi Antonioclayton! As you were saying last year you connected external HD to Samsung Smart TV. From that time on wards, if you are not utilized your drive to save new data then it is much chance of recovering. Because, for every electronic devices there are different read and write format(Ex: in Windows( FAT, NTFS, and ExtFAT) and Mac(HFS, HFS+,FAT) PC file system are used). After connecting to your TV, the external hard drive file system might changed due to this you are unable to visible data stored in drive when you attach to the system. You can try this tool to recover data from external hard drive.
