Question

Samsung Smart TV and external hard drive

Jun 29, 2016 2:40PM PDT

I have a Samsung smart tv (model no. UN40EH5300FXZA) and I used to watch movies I had put on my external hard drive (A WD My Passport 500G Hard Drive) by connecting it to the USB port on my tv. I just updated my external hard drive today, to the WD My Passport Ultra 1TB Hard Drive, but it will not register on my tv or Blu Ray player (also a Samsung).

I am not very tech savvy- enough to figure out I could put movies on a hard drive and watch them on my tv, but not much more than that.

Could anyone explain to me why it will no longer work? I thought it might be something with the USB 3.0 stuff? but on both cords there is a sticker stating each hard drive was USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatible. If someone could explain it in the simplest terms possible, I would really appreciate it. Especially if there is something I could do to fix it.

There are reports that USB 3.0 drives may not work. Be sure the drive is not locked by encryption apps on the PC too. For me I make sure by removing all partitions on the new HDD and creating a single volume then format it. Use the Quick Format too.

What about the manual,

does it say anything about that, like...partition size, partition format, etc. or usb 3.0?
