Samsung SCX-4826FN Laser Printer Problem

by OldHickoryA / November 26, 2009 10:56 PM PST

After installing the subject printer, whenever it is turned on it prints out a sheet with a few lower case e's with an up arrow next to them. I've installed the latest printer driver from Samsung and checked to be sure it is not set to print out a test sheet on start up. Also, whenever I go to an application (Word, Excel, etc.) or put a CD in a drive, the printer spits out one of those sheets. Additionally, at random and for no reason, it will print out one of those sheets? Any ideas? It connects to the computer (Windows XP Pro O/S) via USB cable which I have changed out with no luck.

OldHickoryA,

That's strange that it would print out one of those pages just by inserting a DVD or opening a word document. I've not heard of this symptom before.

However, I would recommend doing a diagnosis at the following Samsung site. It may take a while for the process to complete (Usually about 30 minutes, and get the latest updates), but it should install the driver correctly and be able to diagnose many issues. Have your printer powered and connected.

Also, what OS are you using?

Keep me posted.

HD-Tech,

I did as you suggested by going to the Samsungdp.com site. After downloading the software and having it do the diagnostics, the printer still kept printing out the unwanted sheets. I installed the printer onto another computer which also operates on XP Professional and it never printed out the unwanted sheets. It appears the original PC is the culprit but I don't have a clue as to what may be causing the problem. I removed the printer from the original PC and then reinstalled it only to have the problem return. I didn't see anything suspicious in the Task Manager but I don't know what all those executables are supposed be doing anyway. Any other ideas? Oh, by the way, the lower case e's are followed by an up and down arrow if that means anything.

OldHickoryA,

It sounds like something is prompting to print from the computer. Unfortunately, it sounds like something in the Windows interface. I wish I could suggest some ideas of turning off issues in the task manager, but I run the risk of fouling up your system.

You could send the unit in to be serviced if you think it's still the printer, but based on the fact that it didn't happen on another computer, it's highly suspect that the primary computer is the culprit. Something is sending it information, and I'm unable to pinpoint what it might be.

Keep me posted, though, if you find out.
