General discussion

Samsung SCH-650

Aug 21, 2004 4:50PM PDT

I just bought this phone with a plan at a Verizon store a week ago.

I'm having second thoughts because of the battery life. It sucks, last about a day, without heavy usage. That's BS for a $70 no frills phone. Anybody else have an opinion? (and don't tell me I need to spring for a different battery)

I just read a review on here for the LG VX3100? Any thoughts? The display is monochrome, which is fine - I don't actually need to look at colorful shapes every time I turn the phone on. What I need is a phone that just TURNS ON.

I have 2 of them and had no problems. Nice basic phone.

I'm not having any problems with this phone. I've had the phone for nearly 2 months now and the battery doesn't drain its power that quickly. I haven't had a chance to make lots of calls, but standby time, I've managed to get close to 7 days with it on the standard battery. If the phone would have been made with an external diplay, I'd like this phone even more, but I need a tri-mode phone and at the time I looked and bought this phone, this was the only reliable tri-mode flip phone out there. I got mixed reviews on the Audiovox CDM8900 and hate Motorola. Kyocera doesn't have a basic flip phone available for Verizon Wireless right now. I hope to get another good tri-mode flip phone in 2006, unless Verizon Wireless plans to have all-digital phones by that time.

I agree....the battery is terrible. I've had two new ones provided by warranty and have the same results....with no calls I'm at 2 units by days end....and 1 if just a couple of calls.

I on the other hand have had good fortune with this phone. My battery lasts about 3-5 days with moderate usage plus standby of around 15-18 hours per day.
Maybe there is something wrong with the battery and/or charger. I just returned my wife's Audiovox 8900 as it was depleting really fast. They agreed there was something wrong and replaced the whole phone (after 4 and a half months).
Take it to the store where you bought it and let them check it out.

phone gets "stupid"
Mar 17, 2005 9:30PM PST

I haven't had a battery problem, I understand that sometimes the battery will drain faster if you are not close to a tower. Hope it never goes analog, you only have a few hours on the battery then, but that isn't unusual.

My problem is the phone gets "stupid" sometimes. It won't receive calls or text messages. I have to turn it off and disconnect the battery to reset it, then it works fine.

Otherwise, I am happy with the reception call clarity and features.

Take your phone into a direct Verizon Wireless store. As long as it has no visible damage, they will exchange it.
