Samsung Power Cycling Issue yet again! Am I SOL now Samsung?

Jul 13, 2010 5:44AM PDT

My 52" Samsung TV model #LN52A650A1FXZA is experiencing the dreaded "Power Cycling" issue(tuns on and off repeatedly).

But here's the kicker....Samsung had the set repaired by one of their authorized service techs in December(he replaced the entire power board and stated Samsung was using cheap low life capacitors).

Of course Samsung only offered to cover the repair once I filed a complaint with the bbb.org. Prior to that I had called multiple times and was told I was SOL.

Now we don't use the tv anymore then the normal person, 2-4 hours a night at most.

So my question Mr. Samsung rep...what are my chances of getting it fixed now? You fixed it and it broke again, exact same problem(probably what happens when ya replace a faulty board with the exact same one).

I read a post awhile back that you were now fixing these problems without hassle, does that apply to people like me?

Or should I go join the Class Action Lawsuit at http://www.lieffcabraser.com/defects/samsung-lcd.htm

ln52a650a cycling on/off

It looks like I am experiencing the cycling on/off problem. When
I turn on the TV it tries to start (sometimes I will even get a
picture for 1 second) then turns off and starts the cycle all over again and again and again. I have to unplug the unit to get it to stop cycling. Is this truly a capacitor problem in the power supply and how do I get it fixed. I purchased this LCD TV in May of 2008 for $2500 and
would be very disappointed if it is shot just after 2 yrs of use.

Power Cycling Fixed...for now....
Aug 30, 2010 1:41AM PDT

After filing another complaint with the BBB.org, and a complaint with Consumer Affairs Samsung contacted me and said they were now acknowledging the problem with the capacitors.

They were offering a 1 time fix to anyone having this problem, as long as it was the capacitors.

They sent a tech out(again) and he verified that yup, the capacitors were bad(when they fixed the board the first time they swapped in the same board..faulty caps and all).

This tech had a new board too, but being a bit smarter he had replaced the caps on the new board with the higher voltage ones.

This was about 2 months ago. Hopefully it actually lasts now, getting sick of having to file complaints to get action.

If I were you I would call Samsung, complain about the faulty capacitors and the on/off power cycling issue. When the tech comes out to replace the board(at their cost) make sure you mention wanting the better caps.

Good luck to you.

With very little soldering experience and a little bravery you can fix this in less that an hour. Thank God for the internet!!!!!

I have this exact model. Did you try the firmware update?
Dec 4, 2012 12:47PM PST

So I started to experience this issue just last night... we bought this model in April of 09. When I came across your post and other like it, I took a big gulp... while I would love a possible reason to "have to" buy a new TV, it simply is not in the budget this time of year...anyway, I saw on Samsung's site that this is one of 3 models that when experiencing the power cycling it may be a symptom that could be resolved with the 2010 firmware (ver.1012.2). So I followed the instruction to update the firmware and so far so good. I hope this might help someone else just outside of the Costco extended WAR period.

Upgrade File (Firmware) (ver.1012.2) Info:
* This firmware is for only U.S.A.* This firmware will correct the following phenomenons some units may experience.

-. For prevention : The TV will turn on and off continuously
