Samsung PN51E550FXZC motion judder

I just bought a brand new Samsung PN51E550FXZC plasma TV and while I'm very happy with the TV as a whole (this is my first plasma HDTV, I've only bought LCD and LED TVs before) I have one question about the motion judder that I can clearly see under certain conditions.

I play content either from my Blue Ray player or from an HDMI-connected laptop. To test motion smoothness I used an MKV file of the BBC Planet Earth episode about forests where in the beginning there is a long aerial shot of the tundra as it glides under the plane. The file is encoded with 24 fps progressive scan.

On my old 240 Hz Vizio LED the motion was perfectly smooth but on the Samsung it is uniformly jerky, i.e. I can clearly see the picture advancing in discreet steps from frame to frame. Despite the 24 fps content the Film option in the TV's menu is greyed out, which tells me that the TV does not recognize the input signal as a proper 24 fps one.

I realize that there are other things that could be involved here, such as the configuration of the software player and codec (Media Player + ffdshow). So my question is, what is the suggested/preferred way to play footage from the computer to ensure smooth motion using my TV?
