General discussion

Samsung PN42A450 vs. Panasonic TH42PX80U

May 19, 2008 11:09PM PDT

Hi All,

Looking to buy a 42" plasma for my bedroom and have it narrowed down to these two. Best buy price is about $200 more for the panasonic but they look very similar so does anybody give an edge to one over another?

Also one other question...for a TV this size should I just stick with 720p or is it worth it to spend extra for 1080p?

Thanks!

BUY THE SAM AND PUT THE 200 BUCKS TOWARD THE RISING COST OF GAS. BE A SAVY SHOPPER!!! ONCE YOU GET IT HOME, EITHER ONE IS GOING TO LOOK GREAT. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THE SAM HAS A LITTLE CRISPER PICTURE.DARK LEVELS PRETTY MUCH EQUAL.SAM MAY BE A TAD BRIGHTER.BUT OVERALL THEY ARE PRETTY MUCH EQUAL.HEY 200 BUCKS IS 200 BUCKS.ALSO I WOULD CHECK WITH COMPETITORS.IN MY AREA (GREENVILLE, S.C.)CIRCUIT CITY IS USUALLY LESS THAN BB AND HHGREGG IS LESS THAN BOTH. STAY WITH 720 UNLESS YOU'RE PLANNING ON BLU-RAY OR GAMING. DON'T FORGET BREAK IT IN PROPERLY AND SET UP PIXIL SHIFT. DON'T WANT THAT NASTY IMAGE RETENTION ON THE SCREEN.GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY VIEWING!!! Thanks for the response. BB has the sam for around 889 which seems to be the cheapest here in NJ. I think as a final decision I'll just go back to BB and look at the two side by side and make up my mind.

Best buy has a great deal going for Home Entertainment setup
May 28, 2008 1:26PM PDT

I just went in to BB here in Maryland tonight and purchased one of these TVs and they told me that they are having 3 years no interest financing on all home entertainment sales $999 and up. The cost of the TV was 897.99 and I bought a stand, surge protector, HDMI cables, and a service plan and now all I have to do is sit back and make the monthly 40-50 dollar payments each month because I've got 36 billing cycles to break even with.

Went with the samsung

I ended up having circuit city match the BB price since BB didn't have it in stock. I think its a great price and since both are good brands it was actually the swivel stand on the samsung plus the fact that it was over $100 cheaper that sold me over the panasonic.

Enjoy your TV...
