Question

Samsung plasma powering down

Sep 22, 2017 7:28AM PDT

My 64" (2012)Samsung plasma model#PN64E7000FFXZA started powering on and off intermittently after year one, and then subsequently required 3 more service calls over the life of the 4 year extended warranty, for the same issue. Now on year 5 out of warranty I called the same authorized service company and they told me to expect minimum of $850 repair bill with no warranty on repair. He said "all you can expect from these is 5 years". Now it only stays on for minutes before shutting down on it's own.
I tried the updates, the remote battery removal, etc.
The picture is awesome, when it works. But now it doesn't work.
Pretty sad for a $3400 TV.

If you can find my posts about life span you also read where I wrote "5 year designs." The reason is to drive down the cost. You don't want to know these plasma sets first arrived at prices 5 to 6 figures.

As the makers tinkered the life span of course took a hit.

Be sure to check out shopjimmy repair videos on YouTube and consider if you want to try replacing a board or two on your own. If this was mine I'd try the power board.

So kind of you to take the time to answer. I will give it a shot.

But remember I'm not there with my eyes, ears and meters to check it out. I give it a 50/50 shot it's that but can't give you the assurance it's that.

However the board might be cheap enough to roll the dice. Or you can Ebay the thing off to folk that love to repair such things as the panels rarely die.
