Question

Samsung NP470R5E-K01UB W10 Clean Installation Problems

Apr 1, 2016 1:43PM PDT

I've been trying to get a fresh installation of Windows 10 on my laptop via bootable USB with Rufus, but nothing has been working for me. I keep getting the error message "Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the computer's system volume. Error Code: 0x80070057." I have tried getting rid of the partitions on the hard drive, which worked but gave me the same error code when I tried to install W10. I tried formatting new partitions as well, but it gave me the same error. The way I formatted the USB in Rufus could be a problem, but Im not sure. I formatted it as NTFS and cannot recall if I did a GPT Partitioning for EUFI firmware for the partitioning scheme. Is this the issue? Or is it due to maybe a HDD failure? When it did first fail it gave me a "All boot options are tried" error.

Answer
Back to Samsung.

They appear to have done something special. I see you tried a blank drive without partitions and then with.

By the way, the sure fire way to trip up a Windows install is to partition and format then boot the Windows media to install. I've shown that failure too many times to the techs. Stop doing that. Blank drive please.

Is this a bigger problem then?

This doesn't really answer my question. I did attempt to install with a blank drive and got the same error code. What should I try to do?

Call Samsung to find the procedure to install 10.

It's possible it's not supported and that's why it bombs out. I also didn't find Windows 10 drivers at the Samsung site so this is another reason to call since you'll need drivers for the machine to get it working.

Nevermind.

This isn't helping at all, W10 was on the system before, and getting drivers is impossible without being able to actually get into the non-existent OS in the computer. Thanks for nothing. Delete my damn forum profile if you want to because this is the most unhelpful forum Ive been on.

I know this is upsetting

Samsung.com has a chat feature I use for fast answers. I have installed W10 dozens of times and haven't found out anything new. That is, I can trip it up if I partition and format ahead of time so there's that.

But you tried that.

Is there anything plugged into USB ports? I did trip up the install by having a printer plugged in. Any clues to work with here?

Sorry but to be more helpful I'd have to see the machine and try it myself. And I have no aversion to chatting with Samsung. It's part of what we do when stuck.

check out the following and try to use it for win10.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2476568

why are you installing a fresh copy of win10? Were you already having problems? if so what were they - maybe the same issue...

Where did you get your copy of win10? Is it the same one you used to originally install win 10?
