Samsung "Not Available" Message When Set to External Speaker

Jan 2, 2015 1:38PM PST

I just purchased a soundbar and paired my TV remote to the soundbar, so as to adjust volume on the soundbar with my TV remote.

In order to not also adjust the volume on the TV itself as well as on the soundbar, I set the sound to go to "External Speaker" (changed from "TV Speaker"). So, no sound comes from my TV speaker--it is all set up to go through the soundbar.

However, when I adjust to volume up or down with my TV remote, the sound is adjusted successfully, but I also get an ugly "Not Available" dialog box on the screen. It stays up there for several seconds and is unavoidably distracting.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of the "Not Available" notice?

I have exactly the same issue

I also just bought a Sonos Playbar and love it. All has gone well and easy except for the annoying problem of "not available" messages any time I change the volume with either of my two remotes that are paired to the TV and control the Sonos volume without any problem. External speakers are off. Looked all over the settings and the blogs.

Please post if you find a solution.

Always call software bugs in.

Otherwise they don't know to fix them. Some folk just return sets with bugs. If it can be fixed with a setting, the phone call is the fastest way to find out. 1800SAMSUNG in the USA.

I Called Samsung About This

Now, granted, the person on the phone was operating on a low frequency, as though they were paying her pennies on the dollar which is a great deal for whatever country she lives. Therefore, she had a limited capacity to talk outside the lines and have a real discussion about my problem. Her goal was to get me off the phone quickly as possible so she could record another case resolved on her goal sheet.

That said, I'm pretty sure this is true: the message "Not Available" is baked into the OS for the TV, and there is no way to get around it.
