Samsung LN52A650 vs LN52A750, Which is better?

Sep 15, 2008 12:10PM PDT

I am looking to get a 52" HDTV and would like the best I can get for my money. I looked around and it sounds like the Samsung LN52A650 or the Samsung LN52A750 are the best and I think they look cool too. Can someone tell me which I should get? If possible I would like to stay around $2,500.

The Samsung LN52A750 is the better HDTV
Sep 15, 2008 12:19PM PDT

The Samsung LN52A750 is better than the Samsung LN52A650. Both are 52" 1080p @ 120Hz LCD and are very similar in hardware, though the A750 has a couple more features.. Here's a list of what the A750 has that the A650 doesn't:
1) 16-bit video processing (vs 12-bit on the A650)
2) built-in sub-woofer
3) a more square bezel
4) built-in media center support
5) the A750 bezel doesn't swivel

I would recommend the A750 but both are exceptional HDTVs and you will be very happy with either.

Also - check out these two deals on the A650 and the A750, theyre the best deals i've seen on the A650 and A750s.

Samsung LN52A650 for $2,100

Samsung LN52A750 for $2,208

PIP a650 vs a750 Differences
Jan 5, 2009 1:15PM PST

This thread is a bit old, but I'll add to it anyway. I have read reviews that the PIP on the A650s only displays the ANALOG tuner. The manual confirms that.

I have the A750 and the PIP will display both analog and digital tuners.

Did you actually try that ?
My 750 wouldn't display digital PIP feed

Almost?

Dangrennet,

The post by Empire, if a may step in for a second, is almost perfect.

The 750 Series has a built-in Content Library feature that allows you to play games, has recipes and children?s stories (among other content). The bezel design is more square in the A750 series, as is the subwoofer.

As far as built in Media Center support, it does support DNLA, and only certain formats of video and audio.

Also, we don?t advertise bit-processing specifications.

I definitely encourage you to purchase from an Authorized Samsung Dealer. An unauthorized dealer may or may not have units that fall under the Samsung Warranty. You definitely want to know ahead of time if your seller is an Authorized dealer.

Mr. Samsung

Samsung Warranty

Could you be more specific about "sets that would not fall under the Samsung Warranty"?

I would think Samsung would honor it's manufacturer warranty no matter who I bought the set from.

Question regarding warranty
Sep 28, 2008 11:26AM PDT

As well can you comment on what the warranty covers? I read in another forum that the 750 has a terrible problem of degradation of the red TOC ban surrounding the television screen. It is discoloring - turning white in certain placec or fading causing it to further distract and grab light. From what I gather Samsung C/S indicates the company will not cover/warrant physical damage to something that was caused through ordinary use. I'm in the process of purchasing a TV and this one kinda becomes a deal breaker for me - especially when spending $2,500 for a TV.

here you go

newman000304,

The warranty for televisions is available is in the manual, which is available for download here:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/download/supportDown.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=lcdtv&model_nm=LN52A650A1F&dType=D&vType=L&mType=&prd_ia_cd=02010100&acc_ia_fl=N&disp_nm=LN52A650
I don?t even know where to begin, so I won?t be commenting on legal issues.

However, I can comment on the Touch of Color process. I?ve scoured the web using several search engines to find reports of TOC turning white, and I haven?t been able to find anything. Additionally, it doesn?t seem logical that TOC would turn white, since it is molded into the plastic using a very intricate process (a process that is environmentally friendly, by the way). I suppose any molding could change color if it sits in constant sunlight. If that?s the case, no, the warranty wouldn?t cover that. But Touch of Color is embedded into the molding, not a strip of sorts that would fade with time.

I?d be interested in seeing the link you described if you can find it.

We do in almost all cases...

cnet_Cookie,

Here is our official statement about Authorized Dealers.

http://www.samsung.com/us/peaceofmind/

If you purchased the set from a seller who chose to forfeit the warranty in exchange for a better price, then that dealer takes full responsibility for servicing that unit.

It is not a common circumstance, but it does happen. It?s always best to shop at a reputable dealer.

No Swivel Base?
Oct 16, 2008 12:40AM PDT

I currently own a Samsung LN-T5265F, but once I saw a Samsung 52" with 120hz, I was sold. I WILL get either the A650 or the A750, but right now the lack of a swivel base is a deal-killer for the 750.

I have a question for anyone who might know. Why, why, why, why... what possible reason could Samsung have for NOT putting a swivel base on the 750???? I mean, did they get letters from angry owners saying how much they hate having the ability to swivel the set if needed? Why in the world would they remove an option that has no downside, ONLY UPSIDE?

I'm just stunned by by this. It's so... illogical. Reminds me of a few years ago when I purchased a Canon PIXMA MP830, which, at the time, was just about perfect, EXCEPT, for some reason that's beyond understanding, Canon decided to remove the ability to add a cover sheet to a PC sent fax from their fax software. Uhh... say what?
