Question

Samsung ln46c630 not getting/keeping ota digital channels

Jan 27, 2015 8:38AM PST

My first post. Bought a Samsung ln46c630 around November 2010. Have had cable all this time and have been quite satisfied with the tv. Can no longer afford cable so just cut the cord. Got a Mohu Leaf Ultimate antenna. Can pick up like 20 channels which is great. However, it doesn't last. If I change the channel or reposition antenna or do anything I lose all the channels and it's a couple day to try to do research/try different things to get them back.If I get the channels back, it soon happens again losing all the channels. Have made sure I'm not in store mode but in home use,... did the power on tv with tv button(not remote),press the volume then press/hold menu till reset appears and do default reset,...I make sure tv and air is my source,..I do the Plug n Play, make sure in home use, do the channel scan, etc. etc,..but receive or pick up no channels. I did the hold 'exit' button on remote till the reset comes on screen and went in that way. Turned off the tv/pulled out the plug and then turned back on after around 10 minutes. Basically, I've tried everything I can think of. I even tried pulling out the amplifier of the antenna and doing scan that way thinking it might be a problem with the antenna/amplifier. HOWEVER, I went and picked up another Mohu Leaf Ultimate and tv doing same thing. Because I've always had cable since I bought the tv I'm thinking the internal tv tuner might be the problem because it was never in use while I had cable. I read these tvs have been known to have tuner problems. I'm literally in tears over this. Please help. I cut cable because i can no longer afford it and now I might have to get the Samsung tuner fixed--a tuner that was never even used until now.

Samsung ln46c630 not getting/keeping ota digital channels

Thanks, but don't think the antenna is the problem. When I cut cable last week I got an RCA 1650 amplified antenna and wasn't satisfied with it so returned it asap. Read that Mohu Leaf is the best, uses technology developed for the military, etc. Got the Mohu Leaf Ultimate and quite satisfied with the reception, getting like 20plus channels and I live around 30 miles plus from closest towers...Problem like I said is things will be okay but then if I change from say channel 2.1 and go to channel 11.1 and then go back to 2.1, channel 2.1 will be in 'no signal' mode when for the past hour maybe I've been watching channel 2.1 with no problem, a strong signal, no pixelation, etc. Or, even if I'm watching tv and turn it off, come back and turn it on in an hour or so all the channels will have no signal. Or, if I just reposition the antenna,..OR basically if I do or don't do anything I seem to go into a mode of 'no channels' or 'no signal'. I read these tvs are known for defective tuners and it seems to me to be pointing to a tuner problem. I'm just surprised there hasn't been a class action or Samsung hasn't provided a fix for faulty tuner. I know I can get a tuner BUT whole idea of cutting cable was to save/not spend money. The fact that it might be an internal tuner problem that existed when I bought the tv and only discovered now since I no longer use cable/using air that needs a tuner really upsets me. I also read something about firmware updates but don't know if that will do any good.

Is known for some issues. As to known for defective tuners I've heard that since the 60's when folk would get more than one TV. That is, one TV would would better than that next and the defective tuner complaints began. You've bought the Mohu story so let them address that.

Samsung Ln46D630 not picking up/keeping ota digital channels

Ugh, I just noticed on the side of the tv the model number is actually Samsungln46D630 and not 46C--as I've been looking up solutions for a 46C all this time. Guess I'll start researching/looking up solutions for a 46D. Thanks for your time and responses. Sorry I gave the wrong model #.

The thing that stands out to me is the tuning issue. I have some other set that won't tune in when I go down a channel but then I go down one more and back up and it locks on. The huge antenna cured that so it must be some on the edge channel. Some may call that a defective tuner. For me it's nature of the OTA beast.
