Samsung LN40A750 loses audio of avi files in 15 seconds

Mar 10, 2009 2:28PM PDT

When I play avi's off a USB thumb drive, it loses audio after 15-18 seconds. Video keeps playing but no audio. This happens with every avi file I've tried that came off my Canon Powershot A1000IS. Changing thumb drives does not help.

Does anyone know why this is happening? The Version number on the side reads SS02. Is it a defective part, needs new firmware?
Will the 850 fare any better?
I got this TV because of the ability to play videos off USB..

Thanks

merrickgds,

It could be that the file type is not supported by the software inside of the television. You might try comparing the manuals of your camera's file types with these:

The codec, resolution, and audio codec need to match to play the file types.

Another option you might try is to hook the camera directly up if it has a USB connector, and see if the television will decode the contents through the camera. It's a shot in the dark, but might be worth trying.

Thanks. I plugged in the camera to the 750's USB port and it was able to display the photos, but could not load the avi movies. It said it couldn't find any movies.
Over the weekend, I went to the Fry's store where I bought the 750, and had the rep plug my USB drive into an 850. Voila! The same avi worked without any issues. Audio played fine for the full length of the avi.

So.. the same avi works fine for the 850, loses audio on the 750

Is it possible for Samsung's technical support to upgrade the chip/firmware on the 750 to play these avis?

merrickgds,

I'd be happy to ask. What model and firmware version are you using where it cuts out after 15 seconds?

Resolution?

What is the resolution and audio codec used in the file that you're trying to play?

I played the avi in Windows Media Player, right-click the file & select 'Properties' & this is what it shows. Note that Media Player plays the avi just fine, with no audio loss.

Length 00:43
Bit Rate -
Media Type Video
Video Size: 640 x 480
Aspect Ratio 4:3
Audio Codec -
Video Codec: LEAD MCMP/MJPEG Decoder

When i right click the avi in Windows explorer & select Properties - Summary

Width 640 pixels,
Height 480 pixels
Bitrate 88kbps
Audio Sample SIze 8 bit
Audio format PCM
Frame Rate 30 frames/seconds
Data rate 14600 kbps

There was no 'Video sample size' or 'Video Compression' fields that I see in another avi.
