Samsung LN32B360 Ghosting/Smearing

Apr 7, 2009 11:06AM PDT

I just purchased the LN32B360 today. Put it together, hooked it to my PS3(w, HDMI), and popped in Ironman on Blu-Ray.

About minute or so in I notice some odd movements onscreen. Upon close observation I see Ghosting from anything that moves in the wrong way.

My main question is. Could this be a possible hardware (poor handling), maybe a connection issue, or a problem with display setting's.

Thank your for your time.

Rotkros,

Does this affect happen when on any other input, such as the tuner, or cable/sat box inputs?

And does it happen on any other movies (BluRay or DVD?)

Keep me posted!

Thanks for the reply,

So far I have only viewed a few other Blu-ray's on this new TV.

On Pirates OTC 3 I noticed the effect in more than a few places, after that I watched Tropic Thunder and did not notice it at all.
After work tomorrow I will be re-connecting my cable to the TV, and will also try out a few video games ( fast moving Killzone 2 should yield some good info).

Will Update.

After watching a few other movies, as well as some Downloaded video's from PSN, I can say that it has an affect in everything I've tested.

The main thing I can see, is that its more prominent in darker areas of a movie or video. Viewing a regular dvd on the set, for the most part it reminds me of watching a very low quality video on the internet, as in how the movements are handled giving off that horrible after image.

While watching a video game trailer, an even worse effect jumped up.In one scene in particular that drew my eye was of a treeline, the picture draws downward to the ground. While the camera does this the treeline mimics a new painting, and someone dragging their hands down the paint creating a smear. A few seconds later the effect is corrected.

As for Video Game testing, I noticed a distracting blur within quick action.

That's about all I have at the moment, will continue..

Rotkros,

What you may be seeing is artifacting from SD sources. PSN and downloaded content, as well as DVDs aren't going to have the crisp look that HD or Blu-Ray content is going to have. On the Blu-Ray movies, there may be some "smudging" (and some of that is even noticable on underwater scenes pointing upward) as part of how the movie was filemd.

If it's very occasional on HD signals, and constant on SD, some of that may be normal signal pixelation due to compression or how the movie was transferred to the disc. If you're seeing it constantly, it may be time to call 800-SAMSUNG and schedule an appointment for a service tech to check out your television.

Keep me posted.
