Samsung LN32A300 Can Display 1080p?!

Nov 25, 2008 5:11PM PST

Hey all! I have just purchased the Samsung LN32A300 (32" 720p/1080i LCD TV) from BestBuy for the Thanksgiving/Black Friday early specials. I hooked it up with my PS3 and run the PS3 display test. Apparently the PS3 indicates that the LN32A300 panel can display 1080p resolution, and set it to do so. I was surprised (disbelief) at first but I tested the TV with some Blu-ray and other 1080p contents, and the TV display all those contents perfectly at 1080p. This is verified by pressing the "i" information button on the remote and that the TV display "1920x1080p 24".

I guess this is a "hidden" feature of the LN32A300 model. I'm also wondering if it's just me, the PS3, or that the panel can actually display 1080p?

hmm

I just got the LN32A300 today and hooked it up to my video card. It's saying I can change the signal format to 1080p. When set to 1080i the info on the tv displays the resolution as "1920x1080i"..but when set to 1080p the info displays the resolution as "1920x1080"..without the "i". So I don't really know what's up with this.

1080p Display as 1920x1080 (without the i)

Yea. The TV status won't show 1080"p" but it'll just be "1920x1080 24/60Hz", 24 when playing Blu-ray and 60Hz in PS3 Game OS menu.

Anyhow it seems that I'm not the only one whose LN32A300 can play FullHD 1080p. Cool beans!

Downconversion or not
Nov 28, 2008 1:02PM PST

Hey. I just want to update on this matter that the TV might just be down-converting the 1080p signal since the panel may not be made to display all 1080 lines progressively.

However, I do want to confirm that 1080p output mode from the PS3 do work in a way that for example the web-browser "resolution" does behave as if it's 1920x1080 resolution.

That said, regardless whether it's doing true 1080p or not, you still get the FullHD 1080p "experience" (at least for the PS3) and as far as visual goes, you won't spot a difference for a 32" LCD TV.
