I noticed on the Samsung website today (9/3/11) that there was a new firmware posted for the 60/71 series LCD flat panel televisions, available as of 8/25/11. My LN-T4069F was working fine but I figured I had a few minutes and an empty thumb drive so I downloaded the software. I unzipped the file and installed it using the SW update feature from the television menu. The television told me that it updated successfully and the power on the set cycled off and then back on. When the power came back on, there was no video. I was able to hear audio but could not see any video, including the on-screen menu, the volume bar or the input name. The only thing the screen does is the backlight comes on, the screen appears gray, like it is being overdriven and nothing else.
This software update is bad software. Please get the word out that the software is bad and that everyone should avoid it like the plague.
I contacted Samsung customer service (using my Samsung Droid Charge telephone) and was told that the television was out of warranty and I was responsible for the necessary repairs. I was working with a customer service rep when my Samsung phone quit working and I lost the call, go figure (Verizon blames the phone). It didn't look like I was getting anywhere anyway, the term "out of warranty" kept coming up.
So, please do not update the firmware on your 69/71 series Samsung LN-T LCD flat panels!
I am so frustrated right now I don't know what to do. At least when the capacitors went bad in the power supply, it was an easy and cheap fix (sarcasm). I do know that I won't buy another Samsung TV.
