Resolved Question

SAMSUNG LED TV- UN55H6300

Feb 26, 2015 5:39PM PST

My Samsung TV bought in the USA and now in use in W. Africa, has the picture in Black & White and no sound for regular TV viewing. Why is this so?
All other functions are okay (pictures in colour & sound is okay).

I'm sorry to hear this! How is the unit connected to the TV Viewing? Is it through HDMI, Coaxial, Componenet, or AV?

Thanks for your initial response,
In relation to your request, the TV is connected via an external antenna (mounted on roof top), using the Ant In socket in the rear of the TV.

That's what I would call 'regular TV viewing' also. Good old analog VHF/UHF over the air. Could well be a common standard in W. Afrika.
Does that help to explain why it's B&W only?

It's not even 6 year ago that the USA went digital: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_television_in_the_United_States
Here in The Netherlands, analog OTA stopped about the same time, but practically all cable companies still have analog channels so you can see some 20 channels on your old TV (of course, they also have 60 or more digital channels, some of them included in the standard package, while others are included in optional additional subscription packages).

HD Tech,

I noted that, my old Samsung 45in TV is able to program current analogue channels (perfectly) and existing digital channels (sound only-, pictures has error message i.e. HD not Supported) with outdoor TV antenna.

though my LED TV has an auto search for DTV (i.e. Digital TV channels; to my understanding), it never pick up any of the digital channels with the same outdoor antenna, or is my UN55H6300 LED TV not digital signal compliant?

Any Ideas.

I looked at this and found more than one standard.

Since you moved the TV from one area to another the tuner and decoding looks to be incompatible. Kees noted a possible workaround with cable companies and I did read some tuners were made specifically for that area which might solve it.

So far no maker has offered board changes to adapt TVs that move from one area to another.

The difference between PAL, SECAM and NTSC perhaps?
