Samsung LED 6400 Giving Pop Up Box Warning With Sound Bar

by Randy919 / September 5, 2014 5:49 AM PDT

I have a Samsung LED 6400 TV that I keep the sound off on. I have a Vizio 5421 W-C4 sound bar, which I use that has a Bluetooth sub-woofer. I have all this connected to a wireless Direct TV genie receiver.

The soundbar is connected to the TV via optical connections. I control everything with the Direct TV remote. However, if I increase or decrease the sound I get an annoying box that says I am connected to external speakers. I get it each time I use the Direct TV remote. It lasts for a few seconds and goes. However, if I use the Vizio remote I do not get this warning.

Is there any work around for the problem with the Direct TV remote so I don't have to use two remotes?

Since the optical output is fixed level it's warning the user that it connected via such. Your Direct TV remote needs to be programmed to control the vizio bar.

What threw me off is my Direct TV remote was actually adjusting the volume up and down on my soundbar and I had only programmed the TV. However, after programming the remote specifically to an audio device (the sound bar) it didn't change how the remote controlled the soundbar's volume but it did get rid of the annoying box on the TV. Thanks again to all for your helpful suggestions.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
