General discussion

Samsung LCDs and Netflix

Aug 26, 2009 9:05AM PDT

Hello!

I just bought a new Samsung UN55B6000, and I think it's a wonderful television. I love the design and picture quality and was pleasantly surprised by some of its features (like extensive video playback via the USB port!). My only complaint is the lack of ability to stream Netflix. The horsepower to perform the streaming/processing certainly seems to be present, so I can only assume that this is a licensing issue. Which brings me, at last, to my question:

Are there any plans to add Netflix streaming via a firmware update?

RshaneG,

I'm not sure which features will be available. I do know that there is an agreement with Blockbuster intended for the televisions, and Netflix is already on the Blu-Ray players, but I can't say for sure (until they're released) which widgets will be supported on any of the models. I wish I had more information to give, but at this time, I just don't.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to go ahead and buy the 3600 Blu-ray player instead of waiting to see if Netflix streaming gets implemented on the television itself. It's working wonderfully except that occasionally I get a message saying that the device cannot be registered with Netflix! It's really odd that it happens so randomly, and it (so far) has been corrected with a simple restart of the player.

Any ideas on this problem?

P.S. My firmware is the most current version.

RshaneG,

From what I understand, there were some connection issues over the weekend. Let me know if this continues.
