Samsung LCD monitor completely white

Aug 11, 2007 11:13AM PDT

My Samsung SyncMaster 712N LCD monitor is completely white when I turn it on. If disconnected from the PC, it still will be white (i.e., I don't get the self-check screen). Other monitors do work when connected to the PC(Compaq Presario running Windows 2000), so I'm pretty sure its the monitor. This happened a couple of times in the past, but went away with a power cycle or two, but now it appears to be here to stay. It's about two years old. People say it's not worth paying someone to fix it, and I've been unable to find this problem elsewhere on the internet. I'd like to try to fix it, and if it's as simple as swapping out a component, I could probably do it. But there's lots of components in there and I don't know how to identify the offending party. Has anybody else been successful in something like this, or is this a futile exercise? If it's worth trying, where do I start? Thanks for any help.
