Samsung LCD HDTV and Canon Camcorder Letterboxing

Jan 4, 2009 4:25AM PST

Hi All,
I am the new owner of a Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV. I am very pleased so far to say the least. However, when trying to view video directly from my Canon ZR600 miniDV camcorder (via A/V cables, no S-video) I am seeing the video in a letterboxed mode when I know I have most definitely shot the video in widescreen mode. I think that I can zoom the picture to fill the screen but I don't want to lose any of the video picture. From what I understand I think I should be able to view the video with it taking up the full screen. Is there some setting I am missing or do I need to burn this video to a DVD first? I would test with a DVD that has already been burned and is widescreen but I do not have a DVD player to connect yet.
Thank you.

It could be that the settings for playback in the camera are set to output at that aspect ratio. Is there an option to change this within the camera?

Sure enough. That was the setting that was needed. Now I just have to upgrade to an HD camcorder!

Thank you HD Tech!
