Let's see:

1. Find any file with extension .ini or .txt in your Windows folder (for example system.ini) and in the address bar of Inrternet Explorer type c:\windows\system.ini (use the name of the file you found). If all is OK, you'll see a few lines of text. Does it jump, Are the fans revving up, is the PC responding to other commands, can you use your mouse?

2. Now run IE in Safe Mode (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN265764/EN tells how, for any Windows PC, not only Dell) and go to www.google.com. Does your laptop react normally?

- You don't need a mouse to access internet.
- How did you remove AVG with a non-working mouse.
- Why doesn't "it" (what is "it") not let you install Avast.

Try to be more clear. You're the only one who knows what happens and we rely on your story to understand that.

But if you think it's a virus, download and run any antivirus from a cd without installing it. That always works, as long as you can boot from a cd.

Sorry to explain clearer:
assuming I have a virus it is pot luck if I can operate the finger pad and it is only a matter of seconds after each reboot I have limited control in accessing the Internet before the pc virtually freezes.
To answer you question " it" is the virus I refer to and since my first switch on this morning the pc has got steadily worse to the point now at noon whereby I can only switch on . I cannot access either of my ISPs Mozilla or Windows Explorer
I am not in possession of a cd with anti virus: the avg free Was successfully removed earlier this morning although it took a while to do,looking back on this it is apparent the avg free obviously can't detect all viruses.
Thanks so far.

Such antivirus cd's are free to download and burn. Use any other PC that has a CD-burner.

It could be that some also can make a bootable USB-stick for use by people who don't have access to a burner. Try the usual ones like Avast, Panda, Kaspersky.

I doubt if it's a virus, but it's easy to check.
