Question

Samsung js8500 65 inch audio optical connection

by Radio_Announcer / May 13, 2016 6:35 AM PDT

Has anyone connected an optical cable to the connect Mini and then to a receiver? After doing so when I go into my speaker list on the television in the sound menu to choose audio optical out no sound comes out of the receiver speakers but if u choose reciever HDMI it works. I contacted Samsung they are telling me to choose audio Optical out as well. But I get no sound that way. When I choose receiver HDMI sound comes out of all my speakers. This seems backwards to me and Samsung as well. I have even proven the optical cable is delivering the sound out of the connect mini to the receiver by unplugging it and at that point I get no sound. I'm not sure if the firmware or GUI is screwed up in the Samsung menu or what is going on. Anyone else notice this issue?

What you wrote confuses me and I've set up a lot of systems. Anyhow I have to write "go with what works."

My thought is the HDMI port 2 or the one that has ARC or Samsung's version there of is connected and that may be in play here.

Research HDMI ARC and CeC as well as Samung's own ARC/CeC system. Too bad seller and Samsung are not talking here but you're right it's not something I've seen unless it's on the ARC CeC port. Then again, I don't have your rig and don't recall seeing this exact issue.

Again, I'd go with what works.
