SAMSUNG HT-Z512T Cooling Fan! What is the deal??

Just bought this (Samsung HT-Z512T) on November 15 2008 and it is now only December 29 2008 and already have a problem. Sad

Upon turning the system on the cooling fan is very loud once it kicks in. I have to shut the unit off two times to get it to be quieter.

Once it's been running or warmed up I can pop any CD in or out all day and it doesn't happen again. But upon starting (after it's been shut down a while) it starts up with a rubbing buzzing sound.

I did notice,or thought I noticed that the blades MAY be touching the sides of the unit the fan is housed in a little bit???

Possible??? Also it looks as there may be a bit of white type residue around what I believe should be black on the inside?

I took a small piece of pointy cardboard to gently try and push the blades out of the way. It then became quiet...or is it my imagination and will start whirring when I turn it on tomorrow!!

Can someone please help?? Not scared to try and fix it myself!

I do not want to send this out to be without it for 5-6 weeks only to have it come back in the same condition in a couple weeks.

HELP!!

Service...

In reply to: OK

I'm going to recommend, since it's under warranty, that you have the unit serviced. I don't have any suggestions, but it sounds like the fan may need to be replaced.

I understand it's inconvenient, but that's what our service network is for.

If you keep playing with the fan, it may stop altogether. While it won't produce noise, it won't be colling the unit, either. Wink

800-SAMSUNG. Recommendation.

Yeah it sounds cool..but like I said I didn't want this to be 6 weeks and as one person wrote elsewhere on the internet came back and only worked for two weeks to have the same problem again. Sad

What kind of fan is in there. I'm sure I can replace it myself.

I was surprised to learn it had a cooling fan anyway as opposed to a heatsink.

I didn't really pay attention at first.

Thanks for the reply and I'll keep looking to see what type of fan it is and check back here.

Thank You again. Happy
