Samsung ht-ws1 and sound

by wuzzle1 / January 10, 2010 1:19 PM PST

Hello, here are my specs

Sharp tv with digital out.
Xbox connect to tv through HDMI
DVD player HDMI to tv
DirecTV box with component and optical out

I connect optical from sound bar to directTV box and get dolby (green light). I connect optical to sharp tv optical out but do not get dolby. I also can't get any sound from my xbox when I connect sound bar optical to tv optical out. Shouldn't I be able to get all devices to output sound to the TV and out through the digital output to the sound bar?

Thanks

wuzzle1,

I can't speak for any other manufacturer other than Samsung, but I can say that *most* televisions can send at least a 2.0 audio passthrough from the optical output in the television, although speaking for Samsung sets, they will send a PCM signal. You might see if your current setting is a bitstream setting, and if so, try changing it.

As for the game console, try changing the audio output. It may be sending bitstream or PCM signals, and toggling the different output options may allow you to get sound from the game console.

Does that help?

sharp digital out

I can select PCM or dolby out on my set. The samsung tech told me the only way I will get digital out is by using the TOS out on the directTV box to the samsung unit. I bought a TOS switcher so it should solve my issue. Although since all my device plug into my tv it would be nice to have digital out from the tv plug into the samsung soundbar

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
