Question

Samsung HT-DS 1000

Aug 28, 2015 3:37PM PDT

I'm looking to possibly purchase the DVD/receiver, or bypass it, and connect my 5 speaker to TV or other for surround sound. Is this possible? My sub (psw1000e) does have a 13 pin receptical and receptical a for speakers. Thanks for your help with this older set.

Clarification Request
Are you trying to recycle?

Then you'll need some receiver and be handy with an Ohm meter then cut and add speaker jacks if need be to those speaker wires. It's pretty trivial for electronics folk but it's not something I'll write about over and over. That is, you get the Ohm meter to see what Ohms the speakers are, then check to see if your new receiver drives those.

This makes no sense

First, the interior circuitry on this modular system is not designed to work with separates, like your Polk sub and non-Samsung HTIB speakers. This means all the re-wiring is for naught.

Second, if you look at the prices of new equipment, you would get more bang for your buck by saving a couple of months if needed and buying entry level separates vs the really low end HTIB system like the Samsung (which is built extremely cheap, btw).

I suggest you start by looking at used audio shops in your town for the best deals, often surprisingly good. Sometimes you can grab a 2-3 yr old receiver for <$100 (etc.). Ditto for speakers. If you are stuck on a new rig, Amazon has a few for $150-200 with all the basic features and connections you need. Separate blu ray players can be had now for $50.
The Energy Take Classic 5.1 speakers are popular, btw.

So you are hunting for a Samsung HT-DS 1000 ?

You didn't write what country so I'll search with ebay, amazon and google.

Didn't find any. It looks like a decade later not many survived so you have to decide to change or try to recycle the speakers.

I take it Samsung didn't want to repair the receiver?
