Question

Samsung HLS6187WX/XAA

I realize this is a very old DLP and see little to no discussion on it any longer. But before I give up and throw it away I thought i would at least ask. I recently starting having issues with the unit turning off. Usually changing the bulb has fixed the problem, but not this time. Now it still turns off the video, but sometimes the audio keeps going. I can see the lamp thru the back of the set is still on. Other times it does completely shut down. Sometimes with I turn it back on the video is shifted left and there is a vertical green bar down the right side of the screen. Turning the DLP off and on a few times usually corrects that problem. I am willing to try changing the board before I give up if people think these symptoms point to that. Thanks

Answer
Does it have color wheels?

Sounds like they are not so good anymore. There are YouTubes about how to test.

Also, did you dust it out and check fans for operation and if the spin freely?

It does have a color wheel

In reply to: Does it have color wheels?

I cannot see the color wheel as I have not disassembled the entire back yet.
I have dusted, vacuumed, and checked the fans.
I will look for the youtube videos on how to check the color wheel.
thanks

Hello again. I thought would update this thread in case anyone else searches someday and comes across the topic. I replaced the color wheel and both fans today, hoping that would solve my problem. It did not. The TV still shuts down at random times. It makes a hissing sound, the screen goes black but the audio continues. After about 15 seconds or so of that, the TV shuts off completely.

There are other boards that are suspect.

You got the fans which is a great move. If the color wheels failed the easy test then that's done. Next are boards and ballast. I don't have a good indication which to replace next. However I would try the old tech trick and point a box fan at the back of the machine to see if it's become heat sensitive. It only will tell us that and not which board. When that happens I replace the cheapest board first like the power supply.
