Samsung HLR5667w Picture Checkered pattern

Sep 18, 2009 3:00PM PDT

My Samsung DLP TV HLR5667w has been giving me checkered patterns on the screen lately. It will go away for awhile if I uplug and replug the TV. I know that it is not the cable because my other TV's do not have the problem and the problem still occurs on the antenna mode.

The channels will also freeze for a bit and then continue. Sometimes the picture will freeze and the sound will continue as normal. The TV will shut off by itself and sometimes will not start for several minutes.

Below are some examples of the picture. Help please, the TV is about 3.5 years old.

jimmazjr,

It could be a board or a color wheel issue. I'm not able to offer a definitive diagnosis, but I'd recommend having the unit inspected.

Did you determine the problem with your Samsung DLP. I have the same exact problem. I was going to just purchase a new digital board and replace it myself.

I might just buy another TV it seems that it may be too expensive to fix plus there are other problems that may occur. I'm just going to look for another TV (not a Samsung)

My TV will sometimes come in great on the HD channels but it developes that patern after about an hour or two. On the non HD channels I always get the checkered pattern and now the TV freezes and shuts off by itself. Some days it takes about a half hour to turn on.

Very Frustrating

I am really starting to hate this tv. I am having the same problem exactly. Your pictures are exactly what mine is doing. From all the forums, I believe I have a board failure, however I am not sure which board it is. I have located this website that has the boards listed, but I am not sure which one.

If anybody had any success fixing this - please let me know!

Thanks

Green/Purple video distortions

hi Wendy,

Diagnoses might be as simple as connecting a computer to the VGA input of your TV. If this solves your problem, the issue is with your digital board (specifically the solder under the dnie chip). Sorry to say you'll have to wait in line for a resolution....there are thousands of customers looking to Samsung to repair this manufacturing defect.

Does samsung cover this problem?

jimmazjr,

That would have to be determined by the Samsung customer service center. You can reach them at 800-SAMSUNG (U.S.).

Unfortunately, I can't confirm or suggest either way - they would be able to give a definitive answer.

This appears to the same problem as the one on this CNET thread "Samsung forum: digital board issues with hlr4667w hlr5067w hlr5667w hlr6167". I have exactly the same problem and I posted there to add to the stats in the hope that Samsung will pay attention .

Ever get this resolved?

I am having exactly the same problem - even the screens look the same. DVD playback works find except that it poweres down every few minutes and starts back up automatically. What did you do to resolve this issue or did you?

Any help appreciated...

Mike QE
