Question

Samsung HDTV Firmware update: now get black borders on TV

May 12, 2017 12:40PM PDT

I did a firmware update to my Samsung HDTV LED 55 and now I have issues with the screen having black borders top and bottom, and also the chyrons are smaller fonts and fuzzy-hard to read. The TV was working just fine prior to update. Gawd, what a mistake I made. Most of the channels(95% of them) have this issue of solid black bars on top and bottom of screen. Only about 5 % of channels have a full HD screen. This all came about because I updated the firmware. No previous issues with TV before this. Can anyone help suggest how I can possibly revert to the old firmware-go back to the old firmware and just leave well enough alone. I just don't want to call Samsung to have tech come out and fix. I live in So. Calif. just curious, could someone maybe give me a rough idea on what a service call might cost to come fix my TV. Trying to avoid this if possible. Please help

Answer
My view is cost should be covered by Samsung.

They broke it, they fix it. In the USA call 1800SAMSUNG and don't go nuclear. See if they have a fix ready and if they want to have you pay, say no and insist they broke it.

without the full model number of the tv, it is tough to help but did you go into your tv settings and see if you can adjust all the problems away. sometimes after updates, you have to readjust things.

After firmware Samsung may have them do a factory reset and then set it all up again.
