Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus MTP Error

Feb 3, 2015 2:24PM PST

I have the above phone with Android Jellybean and when I got to connect the phone. everything seems to be picked up except for the 'SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device'. A Found New Hardware window always comes up saying:

Cannot install this hardware.

There was a problem installing this hardware.

SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device.

An error occurred during the installation of the device.

The required section was not found in the INF.

I've looked through forums that say to download drivers from various sites, even Microsoft.

Also, updating drivers in Device Manager, which I don't think is possible for me in this instance as the device isn't coming up under 'Portable Devices' and there's nothing at all in there that has 'MTP' in it's title.

Some recommend a factory reset for the phone, but I don't think it's a phone issue.

Lastly, I read that it could be a Windows Media Player problem.

I don't use WMP, just Media Player Classic, but there is I think still a WMP on the system that Windows won't let you delete.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and I don't have Kies installed when I'm doing the connecting.

Also, the Samsung USB Drivers file I used was this one : SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.25.0-retail

If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it, as i just came up to this phone from my GT-S5603, which I was using as a modem for the Internet and want to do the same with this one too.

At the moment I'm having to SIM-swap to my S5603 to use the internet on my computer which is really annoying to say the least.

If worst comes to worst, I will have to purchase a second SIM to use online.

I've tried running in through all the USB ports on my dc7800, and the same problem occurs.

I installed WMP 11 and the icon for the error message changes and 'MTP' now shows up under 'Portable Devices' in Device Manager, so I guess I'm making progress.

I tried installing the MTP Porting kit and then searching for the driver and it didn't find it, so same as before.

Also tried looking in regedit for a reference to 'UpperFilters'. This doesn't show up where some solutions say it should, so it can't be deleted.

If anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it, as it is getting to be as annoying to me as The Sims 3 Error 12.

So few today.

I haven't used MTP in years. I'd ignore that and use MSC and may leave you short changed as how Android machines do that is all over the map. For me I set in the options or when it pops up on the Adroid screen.

MTP appears to be falling out of favor or just dead. You're also on a non-supported OS that only leaves you further out on a limb. Some XP owners are getting upset about that.

I wasn't aware that I had a choice of drivers and protocols that could be installed for the phone. All I'm doing is installing Samsung USB Drivers and then letting the computer do the rest.

I haven't installed KIES yet, because I can't find a copy of it that can install completely without needing to access the internet.

And if having XP is going to be an issue with it, combined with the above KIES problem, then I think I'm looking towards purchasing another SIM. It's cheaper, easier, and less frustrating than trawling Google looking for solutions to the problem that heaps of peopls seem to say 'Yay that worked!' to, yet the people for whom it didn't go ignored seemingly forever. Just like Error 12.
