samsung galaxy prevail lte cant see the screen?

ok so id like to start with i just got it 2 days ago.
so any way im on my phone and every things normal. then i click the lock button like normal a few minutes later i get a notification so i check it. i click the lock button and nothing happens. i can still do every normal function like sliding the screen to answer calls and stuff i just cant see it. i can only see it if i shine a flashlight on the screen. ive tried turning up the brightness. nothing. i took out the battery left it out for a few. nothing. ive called samsung and they want me to send it in. i really dont want to since i wont see it again for two weeks or more. does anybody have ideas?

It's 2 days ago so wouldn't you be back to the store to swap it out?
