Resolved Question

Samsung Galaxy Ace Micro SD card capacity query.

Dec 25, 2014 9:40PM PST

Hi folks, comliments of the season !

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, (circa 2.5 yrs old) and tried to upload an app called "Flightradar 24" which is an ircraft tracking app, ( flying is my other hobby ! ) the error message I'm getting is that the device hs insufficient memory capacity. I don't normally bother with other apps, so . . . can I get a card with a larger capacity, or will I have to remove other items from the card to allow sufficient space ? I don't want to remove something which is required by the phone's system obviously. I rang the local provider shop ( 3 mobile ) yesterday but the feller had no idea whether I could get a larger card, or give me any guide about what NOT to delete ! ! !

Anyone got any useful suggestions ( no, I'm on a small pension - can't afford a brand new phone ! ! )

Thanks. . . Jim.

No storage...

You can put in an SD card up to 32gb. However, it may not resolve the problem. Many apps will not run off an SD card. You might want to research this app to see if it will. Follow up on the developer website if you must.

When or if you choose to get another smart phone, 16 GB onboard storage is minimum. (The Ace doesn't even have 1gb )

Thank you I L M N . . . .

Well, I think that almost covers it. I'm just waiting for a reply from the developer.

This was not a life - threatening problem, but I thank you all for your kind advice.

Re: memory

From your post it isn't clear if "memory" in the error message means 'RAM' or 'SD-card'. It could very well be the first, and then it's just not the phone for this app.

- How much RAM does your phone have and how much free space on the Sd-card? And what are the system requirements of this app?
- What did the maker say when you asked?

Galaxy Ace Memory . . .

Hi Kees,. . . .thanks for that; just got home after being stuck out in the snow for 12 hours, so have not looked into it further. The SD card has a total space of 1.85 Gb, Available space 1.67 Gb, and a measly 37.45 Mb left on the internal phone storage. It rather appears that I'll have to carry out some surgical deletion of unwanted apps ; either that or start saving for a new device

Thanks for your help

Android is a long discussion on memory.

You have the RAM, the initial memory storage space and then that card you can add another kind of space. I won't attempt to duplicate all that has been written about this but for Android it's a test of your skill at uninstalling apps to make room for this new app. And no, popping in a bigger memory card won't fix this. That's so well done a question and more that I'll keep it to no.

Thank you also R. Proffit. . . .for enlightening me a little further. . . . .

Hopefully, I'll be able to obtain some info from one of our Geeks at the aero club,. . . . . . the one who pointed out the app in the frst instance ( Iphone 5 user ) There are loads of apps which I simply don't bother with,. . . . just a case of removing the chaff without deleting something system related . . . . .!

Kind regards also

Jim.
