Question

Samsung flat screen goes black

Aug 2, 2015 12:33PM PDT

Anyone else having problems with their Samsung flat screen tv going black during shows? My pictures just disappears and the screen goes black for about five seconds every now and then. It will then come back on and be fine.

This sounds like our old issue of HDMI handshaking. Fixes are usually the old unplug it all and wait 10 minutes to replacing HDMI cables, cable decoder boxes or repair of the TV.

I would try checking the HDMI Cable, make sure that it is securely plugged into the television and external device. Also make sure that the unit is completely up to date with the latest version of firmware. If it continues at this point, I would recommend trying the cable in a different port. Then try a different device. And finally try different cables. If you do this one at a time it will pin point where the issue is lying.
Hope this helps!

More information is needed for your specific case...
But I've dealt with this issue twice now...
The first time the screen would act like you stated and the input info would pop up....turned out when my cable installer put in the whole home DVR on the cable setup screen he had checkmarked all the possible screen resolutions instead of just the highest the TV supports...this apparently was enough to "reboot" the screen every time the resolution changed on the signal...
Second time this past month it was with DirecTV...same thing only this time the TV was turning off entirely and then back on 5 seconds later...same issue coupled with a recent DirecTV update that added CEC (HDMI control which is their version of Anynet+) that came turned on by default...

Either case making sure that the source resolution was set right and (HDMI-CEC was turned off in the case of DirecTV)... Seems to have resolved the issue
