Some of the Samsung DLP manuals specifically state that the PC will not work with HDMI. Therefore, I would highly recommend picking a model with a VGA port, also called RGB or PC port, if you wish to use the TV as a monitor.
You may download the manuals here, including the 5087:

Hey guys. I'm deciding between the HL-R5087W and the HL-R5067W; both are the same size and have the same technological specs, but the former is the pedestal model. My main question is this: The 87W (pedestal) lacks a VGA input, yet is still claimed to be 'PC compatible'. I'm most interested in getting 480p performance from my Dreamcast through the VGA port, so I was wondering how one might connect a machine with a VGA output to this machine without an expensive adapter (if that is at all possible)? Is VGA easily converted to HDMI? I would rather get the pedestal TV as they are of similar price (if you shop for best prices and account for the required stand with the 67W) and the pedestal TV is a slicker looking machine, but the lack of a VGA port is confusing what should be a simple decision. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
ALso, is my assumption that these two TVs are of equal quality correct? Their specs read the same, but in the last generation of Samsung DLPs, the pedestal model was far superior to the table tops. Thanks.
